Get more than just a haircut.

March 9, 2010 1 comment

Today’s post is a COOL idea from what sounds like a great place!  I have been told of this place by quite a few people, but it was when I was able to investigate on facebook today that I was sold on the coolness of this idea.  Today I am definitely suggesting you check out HIS Barber Shop over in Okemos.

Here is the description of the barber shop from their facebook groupsite.

“This is more than just a barber shop I intend with God’s help to remind people of his faithfulness to meet our needs even during what the world calls hard times, also this will give you a comfortable enviornment if you wish to discuss your walk with Christ and I will do the same and together we can all grow as children of God”

How cool is that?! Plus if you know a pastor or a priest he will cut his hair for free!  Talk about an act of faith to start a business and hold your neck out there like that!

So go get your haircut and have a conversation with the owner about the shop!  Sounds like a great idea to me!

With Valentines Day (or Single’s awareness day as some of us like to call it) right around the corner, guys and gals all over Mid Michigan are probably scrambling to think of a creative gift that their significant others will enjoy.

If you want to talk Jewelry, then see my old blog post about H&H, but if you want a gift that looks as good as it tastes then read on.

Cookies by Design in Okemos has some really tasty treats you can give to that special someone that will not only look alot cooler, more unique, and probably more thoughtful than flowers, but you can enjoy eating them too!  Who doesn’t love a fancy cookie?!

If you want to find out more about Cookies by Design you can visit their website at

*A word of warning: if you order online instead of calling or visiting the Okemos store directly you may have your order shipped from Texas instead of being hand delivered. (Use the store)

Enjoy your cookies everyone!

Does Your Back Hurt From all That Shoveling This Morning?

If so, I say, go see a chiropractor!  Even if it’s just this once.  You will feel so much better!

And since I already gave a shout out to Health Zone a few months ago I will turn my attention a little farther south down Okemos Rd.

Another great Chiropractor in town is Dr. Sarah Tietsort at Okemos Chiropractic Health Clinic. She is a huge advocate for taking care of her patients, and has a unique passion for helping keep peoples spinal and overall health optimized starting from infancy.  She loves working with young children and babies.  What better way to keep your kid healthy than starting them off as good as they can be!

You can find Dr. Sarah & her staff online at:

Have you ever gone into your local gym or intermural sports center, and decided today was the day you were going to start working out, or start getting in shape?  Or you ordered some new-fangled gadget strait off the late night TV ads that told you it would do everything for you?

What happens when you go into the gym?  Usually it’s crowded, or there is some nut case there who looks like he’s been lifting weights since he was 4.  Perhaps there are people on all the machines, or the weight bench feels gross and sticky from the last fat slob who tried to bench his own weight.

If you are like me, you enjoy being active, but don’t have a ton of time to devote specifically to your fitness.  So you want to make sure you put very focused, effective time into your working out, so that you will achieve your fitness goals in the least possible amount of time.

So the question then is: what do you do?

I would suggest Fitness Together in Okemos.  Having a personal trainer walk you through your workout, and help make sure you are doing everything as effective as possible.  Their training studio is set up great for someone who wants to have a great workout, but doesn’t like it when people around could be watching them.  Each person has their own space they use, and there is a private shower/bath room to use when you are done.

It’s a great facility and you should definitely talk to Brian, the owner, if you have any questions about it.  You can find them online at the link below.

I’m baaaack!   2010 has started with a bang, and so life as we know it has been offline much more than I intended lately.  I feel bad, that I have been leaving you all high and dry with only one post in 2010 so far, and that was on 1/1/10!  Not to mention, I have had less blog hits this whole year so far, than I had in some hours last month…  Anyway,  Read on!

The dreaded day that All Americans dread dealing with is fast approaching. Tax day. Anyone who earned a buck or two in 2009 has to tell Uncle Sam what they have been up to over the last 12 months. (Otherwise men in dark suits looking like the blues brothers will spring up out of the ground and impose their initials on you:  I, R, and S).

So what do you do about getting all your stuff ready and get your taxes done? Well some of you who will read this will be the ‘do-it-yourselfer’ type. You are someone who uses turbo tax, or taxcut software, or whatever package to do your own taxes. If your life is that simple 1. I am jealous, and 2. awesome! If your thing is to do your own then this referral isn’t so much for you.

I would suggest that you sit down with a CPA to have them prepare your taxes with you/for you. Some things are just too complicated and time-consuming to do yourself. This is one of them. It may cost a few bucks but you will be VERY happy you had a CPA prepare your taxes when it comes time to deal with an Audit.

Who should I go to? Well, If you are in the greater Lansing area, I would say, head over to Okemos to see R. Joshua Girth, CPA of Flintoff & Klein CPAs. You can reach Josh at 517-347-0330, OR email him at

The biggest tip I can offer though, is DON’T Procrastinate!
